The saw has a large cutting capacity (2-1/2 inches at 90°) with a maximum bevel capacity of 56° and positive stops at 22.5° and 45° for quick back-and-forth changes.
Ergonomic and Ease-of-UseFeatures Magnesium components allowed Makita to engineer a saw with less weight (10.1 pounds) that is well-balanced and jobsite tough. Additional design details include greater clearance between the rear handle and the blade case to provide a better grip for larger hands or for users with gloves, as well as a wider space between the blade and housing for a clearer view of the blade and measurement scale. The saw features twin L.E.D. lights for better illumination, as well as ducting designed to blow dust away from the line of cut. Makita also engineered ergonomics and ease-of-use into the saw, including clearly visible depth and bevel markings and ergonomic hand grips to improve overall control while minimizing operator fatigue. The large rubberized levers provide quick, one-handed adjustments for more efficient work.
Includes Ultra-Coated Framing BladeThe 5007MG includes a Makita 7-1/4-Inch Premium Ultra-Coated Framing Blade with Advance Tooth Design. The carbide tips are specifically set to withstand the harshest conditions such as plowing through nail-embedded wood. The blade is also ultra-coated to reduce heat and pitch build-up for faster, smoother cutting, with special Makita heat vents strategically set to dissipate heat and increase performance. The 5007MG also include a blade wrench attached to the saw for fast and convenient blade changing.
Engineered for a Range of ApplicationsThe 5007MG is built for framing walls, floors and roofs using a range of dimensional lumber and dense engineered lumber, including LVL, PSL and I-Joists, headers, and microlams; as well as ripping panels such as plywood, OSB, particle board, and dense structural panels. Other applications include plunge and bevel cutting, as well as masonry and metal cutting. The 5007MG is just another example of Makita's commitment to innovative technology and best-in-class engineering.

Customer Reviews

I bought this saw about a month ago and I love that it is so light compared to the Milwaukee saws. I am normally a Milwaukee guy , but I wanted to try a different brand so I took a chance on Makita. I own a lot of Makita tools just not there saws . I am a carpenter and I need stuff to last because it gets used every day for 8+ hours. After I used the saw I love the balance and weight I also think the LED work light is a nice thing to have in low light conditions. All around I would recommend to all people that need a saw that is built to last!

I have used the current models of Dewalt, Hitachi and Milwaukee circular saws extensively, and this saw is hands down better than any of those. I use the saw every day,I have had this opportunity because my tools have been stolen a couple times(ouch)
The makita LXT impact and drill are so good that I thought I would try out this tool.
A list of what I noticed about this saw the first time I used it. I was astonished how quickly I noticed this stuff in use,
it seemed only all right when I checked it out at the store.
1. It has a silky smooth start up
2. It has excellent ergonomic grips
3. It is quieter and sounds better
4. It has an light to see your line, (much more useful than I thought it would be)
5. The adjustment levers function better and are easier to grab
6. Onboard storage for blade removal hex key
7. The angle adjustments and depth stop are easier to see.
8. It comes with the rip guide (much more useful that you would think)
9. The cord is installed to the body of the tool like they mean for it to stay and not fray
10. and does it ever cut smoothly,
it does not however have a electric brake, the 5007mga does though i believe.
This saw is on a different plane,
Thanks Makita engineers, you are making some amazing tools right now.
And other guys, come on seriously catch up.

DEWALT DW364K 7-1/4-Inch Circular Saw with Electric Brake

Product Description

Amazon.com Review
This DeWalt circular saw is a rugged tool designed with professional carpenters' needs in mind. It has a 15 amp motor that produces a whopping 2,075 watts, which is equivalent to 2-3/4 horsepower. In less scientific terms those numbers mean this saw can slice through lumber like a tornado through a trailer park. If that's a little too fast for you, it also comes with an electric brake for quick stops. The generous 5-1/2-inch base pivots for depth of cut and bevels on a ball-joint mechanism that offers smoother, faster adjustments than the simple hinge arrangement typically found on other saws. It has a bevel capacity of 0 to 50 degrees, and--like the depth-of-cut gauge--the bevel gauge can be easily recalibrated if the saw takes a tumble on the job. Depth-of-cut adjustments are made by unscrewing the front handle a bit, adjusting to the desired depth, and screwing it back down tight. This operation is so smooth it can be done without even changing your grip on the saw, reducing downtime between cuts. The saw's construction is solid throughout and it should live a long life, even on the toughest job sites. Blade changes are quick, thanks in part to the easy-to-reach shaft lock button; however, onboard storage of the blade-changing wrench would be an improvement. This is a great tool for serious professionals in need of serious cutting power. At 12.3 pounds, it isn't the lightest model available, but big power doesn't come in small packages, and 7-1/4-inch sidewinder circular saws don't get any burlier than this. --Brian Trinen

Update 8/19/07 - I have recently discovered that there is a fence/shoe adjustment that allows you to precisely align the blade and shoe for all of your speed square cuts. To my knowledge - this feature is not available on any other saw.
Several years ago I had a chance to use a friend's Dewalt DW364. It was so amazing that I hoped my venerable Makita 8 1/4" contractor saw would die. The Makita is still running strong (it's 22 years old) but I finally bought a DW364 anyway.
This saw was not designed for the homeowner but for the professional carpenter.
It will be too heavy for the casual board cutter and the great design features will only be apparent to skilled pro's.
Circular saws have been built following the same basic design for years. Expensive circular saws had strong, durable motors and heavy duty fences while the cheapies had poor fences and poor motors. The depth and angle adjustments in either group were at best a suggestion of precision.
Dewalt to their credit decided to build a better saw and succeeded masterfully. The other saw manufacturers are still doing things the same old way.
What's great - Heavy duty fence, clear view of the cut point from the left hand side of the saw, notch to position power cord so it is out of the way on rips, clear and precise depth and angle adjustment, unbelievably smooth and powerful motor.
What's not - it's heavy yet it's mass makes it stable, although not as stable as a worm drive.

I picked up this saw/kit about 6 months ago and have used it inside and out up here in Maine. While I like the inside weather, it never cared how think the ice was on the lumber. I am a bit biased toward yellow tools anyway but I am really satisifed with this saw. A few notes though that keep me from giving it a perfect score. It arrived mis-adjusted, and it took some time to get it right. But that is also an advantage. To have a saw with a built in tracking adjustment is well worth it to be able to true up your saw blade with the base plate. Unfortunately, I can no longer use the pre-stamped cutting marks as I had to move it quite a bit to get things square. Secondly, the guard spring is way too tense. I build a lot of stairs and any cut that is more than a few degrees off of 90 to the wood, the tight guard spring will pull the saw off line. Since the saw is hefty, this really makes your wrist tire after a cutting a few ten step stringers. I'm going to take mine apart and loosen up that spring it is really way too tight. The weight does get to you after a few days of swinging it around and fighting that guard tension but I'm telling ya this thing cuts like wood like butter. By the way, do the right thing and break in the brushes like it says - otherwise the blade break will not work properly.

Customer Reviews

I cut a long piece of 5/8" BC plywood, and it did the job marvelously. I cut a 2/4", and it did the job. It did bog down a bit. I am not sure how many 2/4" a person could cut on a charge, but if your just doing small jobs this is a good choice for circular saw.
One thing, I didn't find a sawdust bag, and a sawdust bag would be helpful. Looks like there is a place for one, but haven't been able to find one.
Another thing Denali is impossible to locate, on the web, so any information that you can't get through Amazon; will be unanswered questions.

I bought this not expecting much. Much worse than I imagined. Loses charge after a few minutes and can't handle anything over 1/2" thick without problems. Very disappointed.

Customer Reviews

This is a great saw. It has plenty of power. I used it on a project where some saws would have difficulty, cutting dense composition lumber for decks, and it zipped right through the decking material. The only issue I have is that the manufacturer lists a "carrying bag" as one of the included items, and I received no such bag.

I received this saw and went to install the battery in the charger and right off I noticed the charger was flashing. So I installed the battery in another charger to make sure it was the battery and it was. The charger was flashing quickly like the first charger. I contacted Bosch directly and registered the Bosch saw and batteries. They sent out a new battery with no problems. So I a gave five stars cause there was no issues with replacement. These things happen.

DEWALT Bare-Tool DC385B 18-Volt Cordless Reciprocating Saw

Customer Reviews

This is my favorite out of the 4 "sawzalls" (apologies, Milwaukee) I own/have owned. Just so you know its competition here, I have the corded version of this saw, a cordless 18V Ryobi (not bad, all things considered, but definitely not rugged enough for daily use), Makita's LXT Li-Ion version (a real disappointment that one) and this baby. So far this one is my favorite, and, overall, I am extremely pleased with its performance.
What I like about it:
1. Well-balanced
2. Rugged
3. Good power despite being cordless
5. Not too heavy
6. The "chuck" (collet?)
What needs to be improved:
1. The batteries!
The best feature by far is the 4-position quick-release chuck/collet. It allows you to select the usual "up" and "down" blade orientations, of course, but also "left" and "right" ones. The latter two positions really come into their own when flush cutting up against another surface because they place the blade so close to the edge of the shoe/body of the saw. As far as I know, only the Type 2 version of the DC385 has this, so check carefully if buying a reconditioned or auction item.
There are a couple of features I would like to have: orbital cutting and variable stroke length. Orbital cutting allows a recip saw to zip through wood by scooping out the chips as they are cut. Being able to adjust, or at least choose between several settings of stroke length would make cutting into existing walls without binding the blade or poking through the other side much less likely.
The true Achilles' heel of the DeWalt cordless tool line-up is their continued use of Ni-Cd batteries. Pretty much every other manufacturer of pro-grade cordless tools (well, except Hilti) have switched to Ni-MH and/or Li-ion and shown us just how long a cordless tool can run, and how powerful it can be, compared to its corded counterpart. If this tool will be used daily and/or heavily - e.g., roofing, demolition, rough framing and remodeling - then I feel the XRP batteries just won't keep up. You'll need at least 3 batteries to make it through one day of heavy use. If this is the sort of work you do then you'll probably want to take a good long look at DeWalt's 36V or Milwaukee's V28 tools, but if you use a sawzall for a few quick cuts here and there on the job site - e.g., electrician, plumber - then it'll probably work great for you too.

I ordered the product on Sunday and received it on Friday. Also well packaged.
This is an update. I use this often for work, it works great. The only complaint is the blade release is kind of stiff till it worn a little. Plenty of power with four blade positions, it is hard to complain.
